All the words in my mouth That the scene deemed unworthy of letting out Banded together to form a makeshift militia And burrowed bloodily through my tongue
Adalae huffed up yet another flight of stairs, her bag banging against her leg with each step. She reached the fifth floor, looked down the corridor, and set off in a random direction. She was bored, really, and was just exploring. After all, where better to explore than inside an ancient stone castle? She peered around a corner, satisfied that the corridor was still empty. Most people were outside since it was such a nice day. Adalae chose to stay in the castle simply because it was so nice; too many people gave her the jitters. She was always afraid she’d see a snake and say hi in front of half the school.
The girl let her mind wander as she ascended yet another flight of stairs. She had been in a bit of a daze the past week or so, just exerting enough brain energy to get through her classes. This usually happened during the first weeks of school; she just wasn’t used to having to think. Her mind would snap back with time, though she wished she had help. She hadn’t seen her brother in a while, and probably wouldn’t. However much he loved his sister, he was too cool to be babysitting her.
As she was climbing another flight of stairs, Adalae’s mind wandered too much, and she misplaced her foot. She slipped, crashing down on the stairs and falling down a few steps. Her chin cracked painfully against the stone, as did her knee. She let out a yelp of surprise, feeling grateful there wasn’t anybody nearby. Slowly, she dragged herself up to the seventh corridor, resting against the wall. She bit her lip, fighting back tears at the pain. She carefully lifted her knee up to examine it, groaning at what she saw. It was already swollen and painful, and turning bright red. Adalae huffed, blowing stray wisps of hair from her face. She rubbed at the side of her knee and leaned her head against the wall. She planned to wait out the pain until it grew numb, then would hobble down to the Hospital Wing. Oh fun.
